Grief Support Center

Grief is a normal and natural response to loss.

It often impacts multiple areas of life revealing itself in many ways. Hope Hospice offers a variety of resources to help you navigate through your unique grief journey. Our Grief Support Center provides support for you prior to and after your loved one’s death. Our goal is to help you understand the nuances of grief and loss as well as learn healthy coping skills. Research has shown that sharing can have a profound effect on recovering from a major loss. Our programs offer opportunities for individuals of all ages to explore issues around their grief and grieving process as well as share with others who are experiencing the same feelings.

It is not necessary to be a Hope Hospice patient family member to participate in our support and educational programs. They are available to the entire community at minimal or no cost. Please contact us at (925) 829-8770 and ask to speak to someone in the Grief Support Center. We are happy to answer your questions, give you more information about our programs and services or schedule a time to have you meet with one of our Grief Support specialists.

Our Programs and Services

Transitions Support Group
While you are in the midst of loss and grief, you may believe you are the only one who feels this way. The Transitions Support Group offers a safe and healing space to share with others who have also experienced a significant loss. You will have the opportunity to express your feelings and concerns while listening to how others are learning to cope with their loss. Most of our participants gain comfort from knowing they are not alone. Meets onsite twice a month.

Tragic Loss Support Group
Losing a loved one through a sudden death, accident, suicide, or homicide can be especially devastating. The suddenness of the loss leaves no time for preparation or closure. This often complicates the grieving process and leads to unique challenges that require special coping strategies. Feeling isolated or detached is a common experience resulting from a tragic loss. A sense of awkwardness or feelings of shame and guilt may also accompany the loss. Survivors of tragic loss need a safe, supportive, and nurturing place to share their unique experience of grief. The group provides this kind of space for healing to occur. Meets onsite twice a month.

Children, Teen and Family Support Program
Children and teenagers often experience and express loss and grief in different emotional, physical and spiritual ways than adults. They can be easily overwhelmed and unable to find the words to communicate what they are feeling. The Children and Teen Grief Support Program provides a safe and nurturing space for young people to better understand and release emotions while learning healthy coping skills. Creative writing, art projects, music, and games are used to help participants, in age appropriate groups, work through their issues around loss and grief. Parents and guardians meet separately, at the same time, in a support group to address parenting concerns and their own grief related issues. Please contact our Family Group Specialist at (925) 829-8770 or email: info@HopeHospice.com to learn more. Meets onsite regularly throughout the school year.

Grief Journeys Support Group
The death of a loved one can leave you feeling alone, confused, and isolated. Finding ways to explore your grief and how it is affecting you in a grief support and activity group can be very healing. Topics covered include examining memories; coping with loneliness, depression, sadness, and anger; handling the holidays; grief models; sharing personal stories; video, art, and journaling activities; all within the context of supporting hope and feeling better.

Grief Journeys is offered free of charge to participants who have had a loved one cared for by Hope Hospice. If you are interested in attending this group, but did not have a loved one who was cared for by Hope Hospice, you are welcome to join us though we will request a small donation from you to help cover material expenses. Groups meet onsite regularly throughout the year.

If you are interested in participating in a structured, safe, and supportive group environment or individual grief counseling please contact us. One of our grief support specialists will schedule a brief interview with you to determine if this healing experience is right for you.
